The role is being created as part of a broader legal function evolution, providing the successful lawyer with genuine scope to help shape how legal supports the business globally. While discreet, this hire comes at a pivotal moment for the firm, including an active fundraise and increasing strategic focus across private equity and private credit.
The role:
This is a stand-alone, senior in-house funds role with no people management responsibilities. The successful counsel will act as the senior legal lead for private equity funds from London, working closely with senior stakeholders across Europe and the US.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading all private equity fund formation and structuring matters
- Supporting aspects of private credit (particularly US-focused strategies)
- Advising on fundraising, including adjustment and side-letter provisions
- Handling LP negotiations and investor-facing legal issues
- Advising on group and partnership restructurings
- Acting as a strategic legal adviser to the business, including input into broader commercial and structural decisions
- Acting as a gatekeeper for external legal advice and overseeing legal spend
The wider UK legal presence currently consists of a small team of legal and compliance professionals with supporting legal resource, but this role will be the clear senior authority on PE funds legal matters in the region.
About you:
- 8+ years’ PQE
- Strong background in private equity funds, ideally trained in top-tier private practice before moving in-house to a private capital firm
- Comfortable operating autonomously in a high-trust, senior role
- Commercial, pragmatic, and confident engaging with investment professionals and senior leadership
- Experience managing top-tier external counsel and complex fund structures
