The role
Reporting to the Head of Legal, Private Equity, the successful Legal Counsel will work with Lawyers seconded from the firm’s relationship law firms from time to time, playing a key role in supporting transactions and advising on a wide range of legal matters across Europe and the US. Whilst London-based, the role includes periodic international travel.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Lawyer who enjoys working close to the deal team and contributing to value creation across the investment lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct legal support to private equity and infrastructure investment activities, including active involvement in transactions alongside external counsel
- Advise on day-to-day legal matters and help manage legal risk using established processes
- Contribute to the development of legal products, practices and best-practice sharing across the business
- Support the wider group on a broad range of legal and related matters
- Build strong working relationships with investment teams, internal legal colleagues and other support functions (Finance, Compliance, Tax, Secretariat)
- Select, manage and evaluate external law firms
About you
You will ideally bring:
- Qualification as a lawyer in a jurisdiction (civil or common law) relevant to the business
- 4-8 years’ post-qualification experience, gained in a top-tier international law firm and/or a sophisticated in-house environment
- Strong technical legal skills with experience across a range of corporate transactions, ideally including mid-market private equity and/or infrastructure
- An international background or cross-border experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels
- Strong commercial judgement, a proactive mindset and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach with enthusiasm to learn and grow within the role
